Review of Shake Shack Brooklyn...the best burgers I have ever had!

My first ever blog post about my travels! I thought I'd kick things off with a review Shake Shack, which is an amazing burger joint originally found only in New York City. They are now popping up around the world which is great for avid Shake Shack fans, but sadly the closest one to me is literally a twelve hour flight away.

The food itself-

My parents and I visited here in April 2014 during our trip to America. I had found out about this burger phenomenon during my research of "must eat" foods in the Big Apple. I must say I rarely eat hamburgers, but after checking out their website, I was excited by the prospect of having a meal there.

My mum and I got the original ShackBurger with the lovely fresh lettuce, tomato and cheese, ShackSauce and the 100% all natural Angus beef pattie. We were both thoroughly impressed by the quality of the vegetables, as in my opinion, the absence of the shredded iceberg variety just made the ShackBurger soar in my books. My dad got the SmokeShack and enjoyed it as well, especially the all-natural applewood smoked bacon.

Their fries are made from Yukon potatoes without artificial additives and fresh cut! There wasn't an overload of grease or salt and this may sound silly, but you can really taste the potato in them. Come on, we've all had those chips which are suspiciously un-potato like!

For drinks, I got the Shack-made lemonade as a treat and my dad got a regular Coke.

Last but not least, Shake Shack is also known for their frozen custard desserts. There are daily rotations of flavours and you can check the "Custard Calendar" on their website. When I was there, one of the flavours was black forest, which sounded superb. But contrary to popular opinion, I didn't think it was out of the world. It may have been because it was a dreary day outside and my opinion is influenced by the chilly temperatures (it doesn't snow where I live so it really did feel cold, even though everyone else seemed quite content with it supposedly being spring). The texture of the custard is wonderfully creamy and smooth, so I imagine it would taste delicious on a warmer day!

Location-

In conjunction with travel plans-

Earlier that day, my parents and I gone shopping in Century 21 in the Financial District, visited the 911 Memorial, taken the Staten Island Ferry (a free view of the Statue of Liberty by boat) and lounged around in Battery Park, where I sat next to who I deem as a squirrel whisperer.

I've never gotten so close to one before! We don't have squirrels in Auckland you see, so bear with my excitement.
So, what I'm saying is that if you are visiting New York City, you could visit Lower Manhattan during the day, then take a subway to Brooklyn and grab dinner at Shake Shack. Afterwards, we went to Brooklyn Bridge Park and captured some breathtaking shots of the Manhattan skyline at sunset.

I hope you enjoyed my first ever travel blog post, and I look forward to making more in the future!
